Stephan ANGSUESSER is a lecturer at the Department of Geographic Information Science and Cartography, School of Resource and Environmental Science, Wuhan University (China). He is a graduate of the University of Vienna (Austria), where he obtained a MSc degree with high distinction in Geography/Cartography under the supervision of Prof. Wolfgang KAINZ. Afterwards he moved to Germany and worked as Teaching Assistant for Prof. MENG Liqiu (孟丽秋) in the Department of Cartography at the Technical University of Munich. Under her supervision he finished his PhD thesis, entitled "Map icons in cross-cultural comparison - Cartosemiotic investigation based on printed German and Chinese city maps" in 2011. His research interests focus on theoretical cartography, map design, and cross-cultural issues in cartography. He is a member of the national cartographic societies of Austria and Germany.
